After the coldest, snowiest winter in many years, our courts are now bare again. The court surfaces look to be in decent shape (whew!), so after a good sweeping, should be ready for play. But we know all too well that cold snaps going right into May are a reality in Grey County, so the nets will be hung and ready for play by mid-May.As a courtesy to the membership, we will not change the lock combination until mid-June, giving you lots of time to send in your 2025 dues.
Your executive has decided to hold off raising our dues for yet another year.
Last year we took in four new members plus a group of eight from the now closed Markdale Tennis Club. Add a near 100% returnees from 2023, and we ended up with 64 senior members compared to 55 the year before.
The one disappointing number was in the junior category – we only had 13.
Overall, if you include everyone in all age categories, we sold 47 memberships in 2024.
We continue to keep looking forward vis-à-vis our relationship with BVSC and the eventual necessity of having to replace our playing surface. In that regard, Eddie (our VP) and I met with Royal Court Construction on-site in April to get a better idea of what our renewal options might be……….we’ll keep you posted on their response at our July 1st tennis social.
Our mid-week drop-in programs last year had mixed success, but our Friday evening BYOB socials really caught on. A big Thank You to Karen Christie and Nancy D’Amico for organizing……….Saturday morning 2 hour socials return as popular as ever.
For the men (only), Scott Fisher and Eddie will this year be organizing matches Mondays & Thursdays from 1 to 4pm……..for mixed doubles, try the Wed pick-up group
Our long weekend tennis socials will of course be back with lots of food and drink.
Reminder : BVSC’s Annual Spring Beautification is coming up on Sunday, May 4th. Please wear work shoes and clothes and bring a round-nosed shovel. We meet at 8:30 am up at the Keg. The Club will supply water bottles (and later) a BBQ & refreshments.
